Mala Beads are traditionally used by Buddhists as a tool for meditation. They are commonly worn as jewellery, but used with intention, they can be a powerful tool for your mindful and meditation practise.
The 108 beads represent a sacred number said to symbolise spiritual completion. Whether you are seeking that, or just want a way to deepen your mindful/meditation practise, read on to discover how to use your mala.
For this practise you will need a mantra. This is a sound, word or words that sets your intention for transformation. Simply put, a mantra is an affirmation of positive intent to bring what you want into your life towards the best version of yourself. Use words that work for you, an example could be: ‘I trust my intuition and listen to it’s guidance”.
Once you have created your mantra, sit quietly and hold the mala between your thumb and fingers, beginning at the guru bead, the large one where the beads are tied. Move your thumb and fingers towards the next bead, moving the beads towards you. Pause on each bead, and say your mantra, aloud or in your head. Keep moving along each bead until you reach the guru bead again.
Wear or carry your beads to be reminded of your intention, and to carry the energy of it, now powerfully infused with your personal mantra. Your Mala beads can be reset with new a new mantra whenever you wish to.
